More on Chinese matcha
Our 1kg matcha bag sells for $100. The comparable matcha from Japan would sell for at least $200 in the current market
Quality:
Matcha quality is typically defined by color and taste profile. How vibrantly your green matcha is, is the quickest way to determine quality. The classic high quality matcha look is a dark green ‘Instagram worthy’ color. Zhejiang’s growing conditions along with advanced growing and processing techniques produce great colored matcha.
For a given price, the color difference typically looks like the below (A for Japan, B for China).
Availability and Price:
China has far greater matcha supply than Japan through scale of the market (number of farms, number of people in the industry) and significantly more advanced harvesting and processing methods compared to those in Japan. To achieve the below China B color from Japan, the price would be at least double.
