I’m Sam, the founder of Matcha Buy. I'm a long time coffee turned matcha drinker…loving matcha for its smoother caffeine experience compared to the wild caffeine jitters I used to have from coffee, and for it great pairing with different flavors like mango and lavender.
I have a background in food technology and Chinese specific manufacturing and buying.
In 2024, on a trip to China, I noticed how great the quality of Chinese matcha was. The birthplace of matcha is China, not Japan, which got me thinking further. I began working with a tea grower and supplier in China’s Zhejiang province (the Uji, Kyoto, growing equivalent of Japan), suppling cafes in Australia.
Matcha then got crazy!
The matcha industry started taking off and I’m sure you’ve noticed the past few month’s crazy matcha shortages and price increases from Japan.
